It is a service for anyone who signs up for the product with AAR health services (U) Ltd. AAR hospital cash product is an affordable health insurance, with this product you will get some cash benefit if you are admitted for any reason in a health facility.  It acts as an income replacement tool – if you are admitted and do not receive any income while you are hospitalized, the cash benefit that you will receive with this new AAR product will replace the income that you did not get.   The benefit is of 25,000 Ush per night spent in the health facility.

Does AAR Hospital cash cover me at any health facility for any type of problem?

No matter why you are hospitalized, you are covered – as long as you are admitted and spend a minimum of 2 nights in a health facility that is registered with the Ministry of Health.

The only exceptions are for alcohol/substance abuse, war, self-inflicted injuries, and treatment outside Uganda.

Is there a maximum number of nights allowed per policy?

You can claim up to 10 nights per year.

What if I go to a health facility for treatment, but don’t spend the night?

You must spend at least 2 nights in the health facility to receive the benefit. The admission date must be different from the discharge date on the discharge form that you receive from the health facility.

What happens if I receive treatment and die?

This product is only for you. If you die you don’t receive anything. Your beneficiaries will not receive any benefit for this product either.

You are only paying UGX 25,000 per night. What happens to the rest of the health facility bill that I have incurred?

The insurance will pay UGX 25,000 regardless of the amount of the total admission. It has been designed as a subsidy to cater for incidental expenses that you may incur during admission into a health facility. If you are admitted at a government facility where the treatment is almost free or is free the insurance will still pay you UGX 25,000 per day regardless of the amount.

Does the insurance cover my family members as well?

No. At this stage, this insurance only covers you as the principle member. If the insurance is a success, we will consider expanding to family members but for now, family members are not covered. Don’t try to change the name on the discharge form, you will be expelled from the scheme

What if I don’t go to the health facility?

Congratulations on your good health! You don’t get your money back, because all clients pay into the insurance pool, so the benefit is there for those who need it.

What happens if I am admitted in a facility that is not listed with ministry of health?

Don’t go to facilities that do not carry the ministry certification. The insurance only pays for admissions incurred at Ministry of Health listed medical facilities. If you decide to go outside this provision the insurance will not pay such claims.

What are the necessities that clients must meet in order to lodge a claim?

Lodge the claim within 30 days after discharge date. To do that bring your discharge form to your customer care officer. Don’t forget to bring your mobile phone with you

How long does it take to receive payment on a claim?

Once you submit your claim documents (health facility discharge form) to AAR and it has no issues that may need clarification or investigation, it will be paid within 5 days from the date of submission.

What do I need to do to get the benefit when I get out of the health facility?

You need to go to the AAR head office with the original discharge form. The form should have the admission and discharge date on it with the reason for admission. If it is not on it, further certificates may be required. Do not write yourself on the discharge form.  When all documents are handed out, you will receive your money into your savings account within 5 days.

What is the duration of the coverage?

Provided you pay the premium, coverage is for the duration one year automatically renewed.

If you don’t pay the premium, you will have 60 days to get back on track or you will not be covered anymore.

How much is the premium and when/how do I pay it?

The premium is 23,400 USH for a year.

What if I already have another health insurance?

You will benefit from this product even if you already have health insurance. The product is complementary, meaning that you will get the benefit from AAR hospital cash in addition to the insurance you have.
