Head of People and Culture
Job Purpose
The Head of People and Culture will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Company’s human capital function by developing and implementing people strategies that support business growth, organizational performance, employee engagement, and a high-performance culture. The role is responsible for driving talent management, organizational development, culture transformation, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, learning and development, and HR operational excellence in line with the Company’s strategic objectives and applicable labour laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of the Company’s Human Resource and People & Culture strategy aligned to the overall business strategy and organizational goals.
- Drive organizational development, workforce planning, succession planning, and change management initiatives to support business transformation and sustainable growth.
- Oversee recruitment, selection, onboarding, deployment, and retention of talent to ensure the Company attracts and retains high-performing employees.
- Develop and maintain effective staffing structures, job descriptions, competency frameworks, and workforce plans aligned with operational requirements.
- Lead the performance management process, including goal setting, performance reviews, coaching, employee development, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Build a strong organizational culture that promotes employee engagement, accountability, collaboration, diversity, inclusion, and high performance.
- Provide strategic guidance and support to management on employee relations matters, disciplinary processes, grievance handling, conflict resolution, and investigations while ensuring fairness and compliance with labour laws.
- Oversee the design and implementation of learning and development programmes aimed at strengthening employee capability, leadership development, succession readiness, and business continuity.
- Manage compensation, rewards, recognition, and employee benefits programmes to ensure internal equity, external competitiveness, and employee motivation.
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll administration and effective management of HR information systems and employee records.
- Develop, review, and implement HR policies, procedures, and frameworks in line with Company objectives, industry best practices, and the Employment Act of Uganda and other applicable labour laws.
- Lead employee wellness, engagement, and workplace culture initiatives that enhance employee experience and organizational effectiveness.
- Strengthen industrial relations and maintain positive working relationships with employees, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
- Prepare periodic HR reports, Board papers, and reports on strategic HR initiatives.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and supervision to the HR team to ensure effective delivery of HR services across the Company.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by Management in line with the role.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Master’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, or a related field is an added advantage.
- Professional HR certification or equivalent is an added advantage.
- A minimum of 8–10 years of progressive Human Resource experience, with at least 5 years in a senior HR leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of Uganda labour laws and HR best practices.
- Hands-on experience with HRMIS platforms and HR analytics.
