On October 31, 2024, we celebrated our 40 year Anniversary at Mestil Hotel & Residences in Nsambya. This landmark occasion brought together AAR Medical Insurance’s key stakeholders, partners, customers, staff, and well-wishers to honor the strides that AAR has made in the last 40 Years. The glamorous event was a testament to our impact and legacy, reflecting decades of resilience, innovation & dedication to providing health insurance to the masses. Renowned radio personality, Dr. Mitch Egwang was the Master of Ceremonies of the Black-Tie event.
Our Chief Operating Officer, Ssebale Mohammed, delivered the opening remarks hailing AAR as Uganda's leading medical insurance provider & recognizing the organization’s resilience in navigating challenges over the years. This success, he emphasized, was made possible by the unwavering support of our valued customers. Mohammed expressed heartfelt gratitude to our Managing Director, Christine Nassuna, for her visionary leadership & extended appreciation to the Board of Directors for their steadfast support. He concluded by reaffirming our commitment to a future where AAR and its customers remain in control.
The Guest of Honor, Alhaj Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega, CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority, praised AAR for its unwavering commitment to health service provision. He noted that reaching the significant milestone of 40 years symbolizes a point of no return and urged AAR to continue thriving well beyond the anniversary. He congratulated AAR for surviving four decades, highlighting the organization’s resilience and effectiveness in providing health insurance, even amidst challenges such as high claim rates in Uganda. Alhaj Kaddunabbi acknowledged AAR's vital role in protecting Ugandans from medical risks and reducing out-of-pocket health expenses, noting the countless lives saved through our insurance packages. He further urged AAR to keep meeting customer expectations and emphasized the necessity of end-to-end digitalization and automation to enhance claims management and increase profitability.
Speaking about the impressive growth of the medical insurance sector, Alhaj Kaddunabbi reported that medical insurance is the fastest-growing class of insurance in Uganda, with premiums currently standing at UGX 58.4 billion. However, he pointed out that UGX 49.5 Billion was paid out in claims, which could be addressed through efficient claims management, including biometric automation to prevent impersonation. He commended us for 40 years of enabling many get a shot at a healthier and brighter future and providing employment. Furthermore, he lauded AAR for having predominantly Ugandans in top management and the Board of Directors calling it a sign of the organization’s dedication to prioritizing the interests of the country and its people.
Our Board Chairman, Dr. Allan Shonubi, expressed gratitude to the Insurance Regulatory Authority, led by Alhaj Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega, for its role in driving excellence across the insurance sector. Reflecting on AAR’s 40-year journey, he commended the organization for not only enduring the test of time but also for continually evolving to meet customer needs. Drawing from his own experience, Dr. Shonubi expressed pride in being associated with AAR, citing its unwavering reliability in service. He concluded by recognizing the unity of the Board of Directors and the entire AAR team, noting that their dedication is integral to the organization’s success.
Christine Nassuna, our Managing Director, hailed our 40th anniversary as a testament to our commitment to innovation and empowering our customers to stay in control of their health insurance journeys. She reflected on AAR’s evolution from its inception to becoming a cornerstone of health insurance in East Africa. Christine highlighted key milestones achieved through the dedication of the AAR team, including digital transformation, the launch of innovative products, a growing customer base, and an expanded network of healthcare providers.
She expressed deep appreciation for our customers, acknowledging that their trust and loyalty have been crucial to our journey. Additionally, she thanked our partners for their continued support and shared AAR's goal of forming more strategic alliances aimed at investing in ESG initiatives and combating climate change. Christine underscored AAR's strong culture of responsibility and accountability, which has earned the trust of stakeholders and partners. She concluded by recognizing the team’s incredible dedication to bringing innovative ideas to life and promised a future filled with even more inspiring milestones.
We not only celebrated milestones but also recognised the individuals driving these successes. Our exceptional Board of directors; Dr. Allan Shonubi, Mr. Christopher Wilson, Mrs. Byaruhanga Brigette Kusima Sendi, Ms. Christine Nassuna, and Mr. Jim R. Sematimba, were recognised for their vision, dedication, and contributions to AAR’s legacy. Our outstanding staff members were also recognised for their value to AAR and driving our success.
In her closing remarks, our PR, Marketing & Communications Officer, Leilah Kamulegeya, extended heartfelt gratitude to the entire AAR team and members of the organizing committee of the event praising each for their dedication, hard work, and attention to detail in creating a vibrant and memorable celebration that truly honored AAR’s 40-year milestone.
The glamourous evening was crowned with a sweet touch as we celebrated our milestones with a delightful cake and treated our guests to soulful performances by the Abeeka Band and the incredible Azawi. We look forward with a renewed sense of purpose and a promise of more inspiring achievements to come.
